Spain. And another Birthday. Hell yeah !

28 10 2008

When I was about 11, and coming from quite a religious family, I always thought I would do one of those « cathedral »  tours. You know, Reims, Mount St Michel, Amiens, Vatican, etc…And Compostela. By train. Hitch-hike. Or bike. But never by foot. Never as a pilgrim. Now, 26 years after, faith is gone (at least in the deep religious sense of it), I can only realize one thing. And it’s the first time I notice it actually. I keep doing this tour for years… and years…but the rock n’roll way, I guess. With bands. With parties. Including never ending nights. And days.
Strangely of all the discussions I had with musicians, I don’t remember any about… religion.
Politics. Affairs. Feelings and jokes were all on the map. But Christ ?
This time wasn’t different. Even though we were in Santiago de Compostela. Beautiful town indeed. And cool people. Have seen many of the pilgrims, but they don’t talk to you if you’re not one of them. If you don’t go for the « certificate ».
Galice, some kind of Heaven. A fact. But on earth…please.
Madrid. La Movida. Pedro Almodovar didn’t show up. Thought it was his favorite venue. Always coming down with famous chicks…and actresses I ‘ve been told. Oh well, next time Almo, you’ll be on the list. And talk with Tomy about movie history. And future. Maybe..
Madrid is still so sexy…and ugly ! Just like the gig we played to be honest. Good, but there was something…weird about it. The acoustic ? A wacko spirit on stage ? The set list ? Don’t know, and remembering the audience reaction, don’t think they noticed. Good, sometimes it must stay between us, band…and crew members. Nice memories it will be
Then Barcelona. Or is it Barça ? Nou Camp.  Unbelievable pitch. But what a quiet audience, strange… Too many foreigners, maybe ?
Jesus knows I love this town. Historically. Architecturally. Almost mentally. But it has become soooo touristy. You’re lucky if you can talk…Spanish to someone. Keep looking, you’ll still find great Miro impressions. And Gaudi’s views. And …and…and… So nice, if you stay far from the Ramblas etc…
Last time I was at the Razzmatazz 2 was with QOTSA, taking care of their great support band. Yes, the unique Millionaire. A bottle was thrown in the audience. By Nick. And we all came back home. Early. Tim, our present dEUS Tour Manager, was there too. Taking care of Josh and his friends.
Only superb memories remains of this tour. A true gang. Almost a family. Still so strong, years after , when we meet each other.
The same can be said about dEUS. As you know.
And it’s a fact, I still do observe …and preserve.

Please, have a look at podcast , hum, 15 I think.
Hope u like it, as much as we do enjoy your country…and company.

Tapas are on their way… buckle up, a nice glass of  Chianti ( yes, I’m already in…Italy, as I write this down…18 hours on the tour bus later ! ) and some strawberries will do just fine.
Laptop mon amour is needed, though.
Hope you like it !
And Thanks again. And again…
Gracias.

Love,

VP.

Two remarks form one of the Madrid’s audience. the gig was not ugly at all, as MAdrid is not ugly in any sense. Sorry if you did not realize that and did not have the opportunity to have a good walk on it.
Seriously, the gig was powerful from the audience side

I live in Reims and I’m there student. I every day walk past the cathedral, it’s beautiful!
At least, I look forward to seeing you one day to a Cartonnerie de Reims!
Thanks for your songs (and sorry for my english…!)

Hi guys. Thanks for the gig in Madrid. To be honest I kind of share your view with respect to the Madrid performance. It came out good, but something was missing. I would say the sound engineering was not the best. I wrote a short review about the show on my blog. Feel free to drop by if you have time. Hope to catch you again on stage with a better vibe. Cheers!

Sad to say that I think you are wrong. Madrid is not ugly in any sense (appart from its horrible cathedral…). Maybe it is not as touristic as other great cities (Barcelona!) but it is so nice to take a walk in Paseo del Prado and Alcalá, to visit any museums, to stay at Retiro park, to watch a football match in Real Madrid stadium…and to go out at night!

I hope you will come back soon…so you will able to see all the sights the city has for visitors like you…

Great Gig!!! I am just waiting for the next “Instant Street” live performance.
